Rare HSV GTSR W1 Maloo sets Aussie car auction record
Very few people even knew that this car existed, but now that it’s been auctioned, Australia has dramatically boosted prices.
There is a new king of Australian cars.
The secret Australian ute set a record for Australian cars at auction with a bid of just $ 1035,000.
It could be even higher as there are 12 days left until the online auction ends.
The car in question is the HSVGTSR W1 Maloo, whose clock is only 681km. It is a super rare Holden special vehicle ute.
HSV only created four examples of W1 Maloo, all sold to a small number of HSV insiders for private amounts.
Australian costumes made 200 examples of W1 sedans. And it was generally available and sold for $ 169,990 and street costs.
Shortly after regaining ownership in 2017, some buyers sought to resell the vehicle for almost double the price.
The 6-digit price tag of ute has great performance. A huge 6.2-liter V8 engine with a supercharger that produces 474kW and 815Nm. HSV claimed that the sedan was Australia’s fastest car ever manufactured.
The small run of the W1 Maloo utes has the same engine, suspension, and Alcantara-lined cabin as a regular W1 sedan, with almost the same specifications except for the rear spoiler and side sills that don’t fit the long wheelbase ute.
If the W1 Maloo is sold at Lloyds Auctions at the current bid price, it will exceed the previous record price paid for Australian road cars by thousands of dollars.
The car was the original 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III, once owned by Australian high-speed bowling legend Geoff Thomson.
The GTHO was the fastest 4-door passenger car in the world, costing $ 5,000 when it rolled off the production line in 1971.
The W1 Maloo is now more expensive than the expensive supercars of Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.
And when current owners see very high-priced Australian muscle car fans willing to pay for a rare slice of Holden’s history, that may not be the last example of going to an auction.
