Police found a four-month-old baby abandoned in the woods after reports of a distraught and unstable woman knocking on a door in the area.
Michigan lawmakers found a four-month-old baby abandoned in the woods on Wednesday morning after responding to reports of a distraught and unstable woman knocking on a door in the area.
When the agent found him in Oakland County, the toddler boy was “hypothermic” and face down, but still breathing. The rescue team took him to the hospital.
Two locals called 911 around 8:30 am to report an exchange with a woman who was reportedly being chased by “someone with a gun.”
The woman was gone when police arrived, but nearby Waldon Middle School staff also called for a “desperate woman.”
A lawmaker interviewed a 37-year-old unidentified Orion Township and said she said she had a son.
Investigators said burrs were found on the women’s trousers. This was a clear clue that she was in the woods and began looking for an area between school, neighbors and women’s homes.
Thirteen police cars, including the K-9 unit, responded, and after a 30-minute search, they found a boy who was “cold, wet, but breathing.”
“Thankfully, the agent was able to determine that the baby was missing, which immediately caused a great reaction and search, and they were able to find the child,” Sheriff Michael Bushar said. Said in a statement.
“Their quick work avoided what could have been an indescribable tragedy.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said authorities did not know the exact length of time the boy spent alone in the woods.
Investigators suspected abuse of prescription drugs in the case and sought an arrest warrant for their mother.
The rescue photo shows an adjutant and other first responders treating a boy in a small diaper in a grassy vacant lot. He was found in wet clothes, but authorities replaced them with warm blankets and provided first aid.
According to the sheriff’s office, he was expected to spend the night in the hospital and was taking care of child protection services.
