Influenced By Clubhouse, Facebook Experiments With Audio

Facebook launched an experimental online forum called Hotline on Wednesday. This is an attempt by social media giants to catch up with live audio trends that are popular with Clubhouse and others.

Social media advocates are scrambling to prevent users from being seduced by voice-only online rivals.

The Facebook application is essentially a Reddit Ask Me Anything session and a Clubhouse spin, an audio-only social media sensation that started a year before the boom during the pandemic.

The hotline provides users with audio, text, and video options for participating in online discussions with hosts.

Users can ask questions in writing, which is not possible at Clubhouse. Speakers, on the other hand, can choose who to invite to speak “on stage.”

A Facebook spokeswoman told AFP, “At the hotline, interactive live multimedia Q & A can help professionals build their business, as well as learn from professionals in areas such as professional skills. I want to understand how it can help. “

According to Facebook, the session headliner has the option to turn on the webcam to view it, and even remove malicious comments from text chat.

According to a TechCrunch report, Facebook employees moderate hotline events and evict anyone who violates the rules they set for what they can tolerate.

A spokeswoman said Facebook is testing several other platforms.

This includes a Q & A product called Venue and a collaborative music app called Collab and BARS, similar to TikTok. However, testing of a voice calling app called CatchUp ended last year.

Following the success of Zoom video conferencing service and Clubhouse, Facebook has enhanced live video and audio capabilities on both its main site and its sister site Instagram.
