India’s IPL Cricket Suspended Over Coronavirus

The Indian Premier League, the world’s wealthiest Twenty20 cricket tournament, was suspended for safety reasons on Tuesday as India fights a massive surge in coronavirus.

“The Indian Premier League Board of Directors and the Indian Cricket Management Committee have unanimously decided at an emergency meeting to postpone the IPL 2021 season,” the organizer said in a statement.

“BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of players, support staff, and other participants involved in organizing the IPL. This decision is the safety, health, and well-being of all stakeholders. It was done with this in mind. ” ..

The suspension following the growing controversy over the tournament took place the day after the two players tested positive, and the match was postponed.

India will also host the Twenty20 World Cup in October and November.

A big IPL has been running since early April, despite India’s healthcare system being overwhelmed by the vicious second wave of viral cases.

This prompted criticism from those who said the competition was inadequate, but others defended it as a welcome distraction.

A pandemic hit in six cities, including New Delhi and Mumbai, has left eight teams in a tough biobubble.

“It’s been a difficult time, especially in India, and we’ve been trying to be positive and cheerful, but it’s imperative to interrupt the tournament and return everyone to their families and loved ones during these difficult times.” Said.

“BCCI will do everything with its authority to arrange a safe and secure passage for all participants in IPL 2021.”
