What is ATP? (Adenosine triphosphate)
ATP is an energizing chemical found in all living organisms and is a universal indicator of organic residues.
How is it measured?
The Hygiena ATP test device contains the natural enzymes found in fireflies. When this enzyme comes into contact with ATP, it triggers a simple bioluminescent (light-giving) reaction.
Using bioluminescent technology, a sanitary luminometer can measure very low levels of ATP collected on a test device (cotton swab). Measuring the light produced from the reaction with ATP provides a good indicator of surface cleanliness because the amount of light produced is directly proportional to the amount of ATP present in the sample. The reaction is immediate and the results can be processed in seconds. The result is numerically represented on the luminometer screen as Relative Light Units (RLU).
How and where does it help reduce the risk of infection?
In the ultrasound department or clinic — Case study: Use of ATP monitoring to maintain hospital ultrasound equipment (1). In this study, conducted across five facilities in Sydney, 26% of the 253 surfaces tested showed a possible or clear lack of cleanliness (RLU measurements over 100). Of these, 6% had to undergo multiple cleaning interventions to achieve the intended level of cleanliness set below 25 RLU. If the surface was difficult to clean or if organic matter remained, it could not be identified without the ATP test.
Sterilization department (CSSD) — The ATP test is performed on a washer-passed instrument to ensure that organic matter has been removed prior to sterilization. In this test, a level of 10 RLU or less is set. The EndoSwab brush also allows you to run tests in lumen scope internal channels and other small areas that are difficult to reach. The ATP test is a validation method accepted by the AS / NZ 4187 guidelines and contains recommendations for cleaning lumen and non-lumen scopes. This method is used in CSSDs in many Australian hospitals.
In elderly care — Case study: Brent Care Home Study (3). The results of the implementation of ATP cleaning validation showed a reduction in virus contamination based on peer-reviewed studies. The results reaffirmed that customer and staff operations were clean and secure using validated cleaning data. Differentiate from competitors. By speeding up cleaning verification, we have minimized room and facility turnover times. We identified difficult areas before the problem occurred, reduced the risk of infection, and protected the brand from the negative PR associated with the outbreak.
Rampling et al (2001) J. of Hospital Infection. Vol 49, 109-116 (2) showed that additional irrigation reduced environmental isolation and MSRA infection rates from 42% to 0%.
The cost-benefit analysis was A $ 170,000 per ward per year (costs were converted to 2021 in line with inflation).
General environment in healthcare — Case study: North Teas Hospital and Hartlepool Hospital in the United Kingdom. In this study, conducted by North Teas Hospital and Hartlepool Hospital in the United Kingdom, data showed that monitoring cleaning performance with Hygiena SystemSURE Plus increased pass scores by 20% in these two hospitals. In this survey, pass scores were categorized as scores below 100 RLU. During this time, the values reported at the hospital after 48 hours decreased by 35.24%. C. Difficile Infection. (Hygiene 2012) (4)
Anaeron is working closely with Australian healthcare facilities on how ATP testing can help reduce the risk of infection and contamination. We provide training and ongoing support to each user.
Customer Feedback: “It’s very refreshing to do business with a company that really cares about you, especially during these difficult times.” And “The support we receive from Anaeron staff is second to none. No. They are very knowledgeable, professional and ethical in their field. They can always provide assistance and advice to their clients. “
Sanitary luminometers and swabs are world leaders in sensitivity, accuracy and reproducibility, eliminating the need for expensive recalibration of the unit.
Data provided by GuhA and Carling PCs. Option to evaluate environmental cleaning. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 2010. (5) showed that Hygiena ATP Testing removes bias, is quantitative and timely, acts as a training and management tool, is fraud prevention, and provides software analysis.
Developed by Hygiena, the SureTrend software comes pre-configured with reports, graphs and charts. Test results are captured and can be immediately analyzed to provide feedback and improve cleaning performance. Continuous improvement is an important part of the Hygiena ATP cleaning verification system.
