What is ATP? (Adenosine triphosphate)

ATP is an energizing chemical found in all living organisms and is a universal indicator of organic residues.

How is it measured?

The Hygiena ATP test device contains the natural enzymes found in fireflies. When this enzyme comes into contact with ATP, it triggers a simple bioluminescent (light-giving) reaction.

Using bioluminescent technology, a sanitary luminometer can measure very low levels of ATP collected on a test device (cotton swab). Measuring the light produced from the reaction with ATP provides a good indicator of surface cleanliness because the amount of light produced is directly proportional to the amount of ATP present in the sample. The reaction is immediate and the results can be processed in seconds. The result is numerically represented on the luminometer screen as Relative Light Units (RLU).

How and where does it help reduce the risk of infection?
