Gusty Winds Thrash South Dakota

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a gust of 35-45 mph struck South Dakota on October 13. Images from Howard, a town in eastern South Dakota, about 50 miles northeast of Sioux Falls, show wind-struck trees and flags. According to the National Weather Service, the wind gradually weakened towards midnight. According to the Meteorological Bureau, winds and “fluctuating cloudiness” caused temperatures to rise several degrees below freezing on Wednesday night. However, the fall on Thursday and Friday nights warned that frost areas are possible “as the cold autumn air settles in the area.” Credit: Justin lewis via Storyful
