Families Of Indonesia Jet Crash Victims Hold Memorial At Sea

62 relatives killed when an Indonesian jet airliner scattered flowers at the crash site on Friday are looking for clues as to why the plane fell from the sky minutes after takeoff.

The monument came when the search for human remains and debris was completed two weeks after Sriwijaya Air’s Boeing 737-500 plunged about 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) within a minute before hitting the waters off Jakarta. I did.

However, as investigators are looking into the details from the searched flight data recorders (so-called black boxes that may be important to the probe), they are still looking for the missing cockpit voice recorders.

The maintenance log pointed out a problem with the autothrottle of the airplane controlling the engine output, but it was not clear what role the apparent malfunction played.

On Friday, dozens of relatives threw red petals from the deck of a Navy ship, and some overcame their emotions.

“When I threw the flowers, I saw my sister’s face on the surface of the water,” said Heli Purnomo, whose brother Agus Minardi and her husband were on an airplane.

“I suddenly shed tears … it was a very sad moment.”

The airline’s president, Jefferson Irwin Joewena, said he was “ravaged” by an accident that killed 12 crew members.

“We are also sad and lost,” he said.

So far, 47 of the 62 victims have been identified by fingerprint and DNA matching with living families.

However, 33-year-old Betty Suprianti, who has lost five relatives, is waiting for her aunt to be officially identified.

“I didn’t attend the ceremony today. No one in my family attended. It was very painful,” she said.

“Our only hope is that the (last) of our relatives will be identified immediately.”

The 26-year-old plane crashed just four minutes after leaving Jakarta and headed for Pontianac, Borneo, 90 minutes away.

Authorities did not declare an emergency before the dive or report technical problems with the aircraft, citing relatively small areas of scattered debris and hitting the water. He said the time was probably intact.

Crash probes can take months, but a preliminary report is planned for next month.
