Beech-Nut Exits Rice Cereal Baby Food Market After Arsenic Recall

Beech nutrition Not only did we collect one lot of rice grains because of the potential for arsenic contamination, but we also permanently withdrew baby food from the store because of concerns about the consistency of rice flour that meets the specifications and Food and Drug Administration guidelines.

The recall affects one lot of beech nut stage 1, single grain rice cereal. It was found to contain naturally occurring inorganic arsenic above the levels set by the FDA during regular sampling.

The FDA states that it recognizes that trace elements such as inorganic arsenic are widespread in the environment and naturally present in water, soil and food. However, officials also said increased exposure could pose a health risk to young children.

Affected rice cereal baby food was distributed at retail stores nationwide and online. The UPC code is 52200034705. The expiration date is May 1, 2022, and the product codes are 103470XXXX and 093470XXXX. Both are at the bottom of the canister.

Beech-Nut said it has decided to withdraw from the single-grain rice cereal market because of concerns about finding consistent rice flour that meets both requirements and the FDA at inorganic arsenic levels.

“Infant and child safety is Beech-Nut’s top priority,” Jason Jacobs, vice president of food safety and quality at Beech-Nut, said in a statement.
