Authorities Evacuate Animals as Volcanic Explosions on La Palma Continue

On September 24, in La Palma, Canary Islands, additional evacuation was ordered as Cumbre Vieja volcano blew off a new spout that spewed lava and other material onto the island. The Canary Islands Volcanic Institute (INVOLCAN) measured an increase in explosive activity on Friday afternoon. Authorities later confirmed that a new vent was opened to release volcanic material. Citing the increased danger caused by the volcano on Friday, Canary Islands officials expanded the evacuation zone in La Palma.
