At least 15 people were killed and 70 were injured when the elevated road carrying Mexico City’s subway cars partially collapsed on the road on Monday night, officials said.
A video on the local channel Milenio TV shows that the elevated 12 lines of the subway are collapsing on a car on the road below.
Television and social media videos showed paramedics and firefighters running through the wreckage looking for survivors.
Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico City told reporters that 15 people had died and the car was trapped under rubble.
“Unfortunately there are dead and injured. I’m helping to set up a command center on site,” Shainbaum said on Twitter.
The city’s Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection Department initially killed 13 and 70 injured.
Twelve metro lines were built when Foreign Minister Marcelo Evrad was the mayor of Mexico City.
“What happened in the metro today is a terrible tragedy. My solidarity with the victims and their families,” Evrad said on Twitter.
“Of course, we need to investigate the cause and define the responsibilities. I repeat that the authorities are free to help whatever they need.”
I will come more.
